1，红字的potentially either如何理解呢？
我一个人理解的是：potentially 副词 “潜在地”，引申理解为“可能性”；either在这里做形容词用，意为“（二者中）任一的”，引申为“非此即彼的”，再引申为“相同的”。所以我把potentially either翻译为“可能是相同的”。
2，how前面是否应该有个连词“and”呢？

= each component has the potential to be either the subject or the object.
how thing and man can change places, how a man can become a thing and a thing become a living being. 第二个how分句，是对第一个how分句的讲解，即对change places做进一步说明，二者不是并列关系，而是补充说明，所以不需要并列连词。
